There are a lot of posts on Pinterest about this DIY table to put behind the sofa.

We liked the idea and wanted to add this to the lounge area in the basement. Perfect for watching games on the big screen.

Since Spencer has access to his company’s metal fabrication shop and talent, we were able to design a table very similar.

First things first was to find the perfect piece of wood. There are many wood shops or upcycle stores in the DC area. Woodcraft of Rockville, right down the street from us, was the perfect place. Great customer service and they even trimmed and planed the wood for us!

His shop built an aluminum base, complete with a foot rest and purse hooks.

Then we had to stain and treat the wood. We chose a light color stain to contrast against the busy floors and dark couch. The stain was called Sunbleached by Varathane. After the stain, we used polyurethane to seal the wood and the bark edge.

After bringing it down the tight staircase, it was ready to screw together. We added 4 bar stools from Restoration Hardware; 1940’s Vintage Toledo Bar Chairs.

Now who’s ready to watch the game!?
