More Whitewashing - Because it's so easy!

We didn’t stop with the fireplace. With this easy and quick method, we also painted the brick between the small dining area and kitchen. This made a HUGE difference!

The bright white color opened up the whole room. Really the whole back of the house. The darker, pinkish color looked dated but the faux beam was stylish. Whitewashing this part of the brick was a happy marriage of rustic and charm.

Now the line of sight from the kitchen to the fireplace is cohesive, brighter and much more modern than before.

It feels so light and airy!

What’s the trick to whitewashing?

Mix 1/2 white paint and 1/2 water and paint away! It can become a mess since the paint is very loose, so beware. We used regular bristle brushes and had rags handy. There were times that we needed to go behind the brush with the rag to catch drips.

It dries fast and still allows the brick to breathe. You don’t have to be exact either. It’s ok if you miss a spot or two, it is all a part of the whitewashing vs painting. It leaves a rustic look.

Give it a shot!
